Higher Education Institutional Membership

Thank you for your interest in the Council of International Schools (CIS). CIS facilitates links between institutions of higher education and secondary schools to increase institutional visibility and facilitate connections with students and the school guidance community. CIS Membership is institutional, please confirm your university is not yet a member by searching the CIS Membership Directory for your institution. 

To qualify for CIS Higher Education membership, post-secondary institutions must:
  • Provide evidence that supports an institution's commitment to international education, global citizenship, and delivering programmes and services to international students
  • Have the power to award their own degrees
  • Hold university level accreditation by one of the six US regional accrediting organizations, or hold official recognition as a university by the Ministry of Education in the country where the institution is located
  • Agree to support and uphold the CIS Code of Ethics and Guiding Principles for Higher Education

Separate CIS Membership for International Branch Campuses
International university branch campuses which meet the following criteria may opt to have a separate CIS membership from their main campus:
  • Have their own distinct admissions/administrative offices rather than having admission and administrative decisions centralized through offices at the main campus
  • Are located in a different country than the main campus
  • Offer degrees which can be completed from start to finish at the branch campus location
  • Hold university-level accreditation by a US regional accrediting organization, or hold official university-level recognition by the ministry of education in the country where the institution is located
  • Provide evidence that supports an institution's commitment to international education, global citizenship, and delivering programmes and services to international students
  • Hold university level accreditation by one of the six US regional accrediting organizations, or hold official recognition as a university by the Ministry of Education in the country where the institution is located
  • Agree to support and uphold the CIS Code of Ethics and Guiding Principles for Higher Education
